As the second entry to the Jade Road collection, the action in A Dance of Akaroan Waters & Roots takes place right after the events of Forgiving Raldri Choden, which is the third entry, and before the story told in the forth entry: Sons of the Revolt.

Summary:

Despite Noa and his mother Lin being of Naomi decent, his parents are granted the title “Son and Daughter of Ichtaca” by the Empire, in exchange for their silence on their unjustified and horrific custody that jsut ended. As new ambassadors of the Sun and Moon Gods’ cult, they are expected to spread and maintain the use of Alchemy and its Jadeity stones within the Impreial Wall, through their art and craftsmanship. In return, they get to live a safe and wealthy life, one most Naomi people could only dream of.

However, as enough years go by for Noa to grow into a young man, the after-effect of his parent’s past torture impairs them both physically and mentally. Lin taught his son tradtional Huan dances, as well as the use of his Life Gate and jade sword to command vegetation. Noa therefore replaces his mother when she can no logner perform as the Dancer of the Dawn prodigy she once was. As his father, named Kauri, now has to fight limb pain in addition to his long lost passion for jade carving, the public’s interest in their festival shows and jade shop falters. Noa crumbles under the pressure as he is put in front of his last chance to save his family’s title, all the while realising the absence of personal drive eats him from within. The voice of his violent teen self reemerges…

At the lowest point of his adulthood, Noa meets Aroha, the one soul that can save him. Or accompany him into a dangerous path…
